Waterfowl, birds that are typically found in or near water, are federally regulated because they are migratory (crossing state lines) but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be controlled. It just means that there is more paperwork involved. We can walk you through and help you fill out the necessary permits.
Geese Control and Removal
Tired of scaring unwanted geese off of your property? Do repellents, deterrents, and decoys seem ineffective? Geese are generally challenging to control and remove. So, it is practical to let a geese control and removal expert handle this tough job.
Have you ever wondered why you see flocks of geese on your property year-round? It’s because they can adapt to different surroundings. They can even get comfortable in an environment with big crowds, playing children and loud noises. Being herbivores, geese are most attracted to secured areas with an abundant supply of food and freshwater, green, manicured grasses, potential nesting sites, and those with few predators.
In fact, planter boxes are becoming their nesting sites of choice. Geese are exceedingly aggressive, posting sentinels at their nesting and feeding sites. Most of the time, defense of their “territories” can lead to serious injury to people or pets who venture closely.
At Illiana Wildlife Services, it is our mission to provide you the most effective, humane and eco-friendly Indiana goose control service possible. We utilize special techniques for efficient and long-lasting results while putting the biological and behavioral aspects of goose activity in mind for ignoring these factors will likely not solve the problem.
Our geese control and removal process usually involves the following:
Removal of aggressive nesting pair
Bird round ups
Just contact us and we can provide you a custom geese control management program based on your specific requirements.
Geese Damage and Diseases
Geese are valuable natural resources but their population explosion has generated a serious problem to many business owners and homeowners associations. Geese are considered nuisance birds if they reside in the wrong areas. They can cause damage to agricultural crops through trampling or consumption. They also cause aesthetic damage to parks, playgrounds, golf courses, soccer fields, parking lots, school premises, and other establishments.
Another big issue are geese droppings; geese leave large quantities of feces, which can be challenging to clean up. As a matter of fact, a single goose can defecate up to 1.5 pounds of feces every 20 minutes daily. Did you know that geese are also a health hazard? Yes, their droppings contains a wide array of pathogens (Salmonella, Campylobacter, Escherichia coli, Listeria, and Chlamydia) and parasites (Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and Toxoplasmosis) that can infect humans.
Apart from the pollution they cause to reservoirs and ponds, their droppings can also increase the risk of personal injury resulting from falls as people especially kids lose footing on the slippery manure. Another threat is air safety. Geese are one of the main birds involved in airline bird strikes worldwide.
With that said, getting rid of these birds promptly is critical due to the negative impact they can cause to the health, outdoor structures and day-to-day operation of your business.

We do raccoon removal almost every single day. They are probably the most destructive wildlife that we deal with. They are also adaptive to urban environments and very smart. Raccoons do not make good neighbors or tenants of your home. If you see raccoons near your home call us. Most raccoon problems are because some type of food, water or shelter source is attractive to them.
Raccoons are wild animals and if given the opportunity, they can destroy everything inside your house. Our company has received lots of calls from devastated home and business owners, saying that raccoons have been destroying their attics and no matter what they do, the raccoons just kept coming back. We have seen attics that have been completely wrecked by these animals, and it was not a pretty sight. Raccoon latrine, scratched floors, holes in walls, and ravaged insulation are just few of the damages that a single raccoon can cause. Trying to trap them without the proper training and equipment can be dangerous and can even backfire. It is always better to call in a trained professional for all types of raccoon problems.
Raccoons do one thing well and that’s raccoon damage. No other nuisance wildlife has damage skills like the raccoon. Opossums and squirrels are sometimes blamed for damage caused by raccoons. Raccoons have thumb like appendages that allow them to grasp, grip and tear things apart. They are considered to be one of the most dexterous mammals in the world because of their ability to use their front paws for a wide variety of tasks. Their agile front paws act like hands that can be used to open doors, carry small food items, open container lids, and move things from one place to another. Raccoons have a very sensitive sense of touch which has proven to be especially useful when they are hunting for food. There have been instances where raccoons are seen wetting their hands with water. This is believed to make their hands much more sensitive. Many people believe that raccoons wash their food before eating it. This is a false belief. While it is true that raccoons dip their hands in water before eating, they aren’t doing it for sanitary reasons. Instead, raccoons are actually gathering more information about the food item that they’re holding. Almost two-thirds of sensory information comes from the raccoons sense of touch, so basically, the raccoon is “seeing” the food much better when its hands are dipped in water.
They are good at problem solving. If they want in your attic they will find a way. Raccoons can grab, chew, remove, and steal about anything. They are naturally curious and highly intelligent animals that will do everything they can to find food. Homeowners are often surprised to find raccoons running around inside their house even after closing all doors and windows. They didn’t realize that the raccoons have the ability to create holes in damaged wooden walls, or that raccoons can actually find their way inside by climbing through their uncapped chimneys. Raccoons love pet doors. If you have raccoons in your fireplace or raccoons in your chimney you may need a new chimney cap installed.
Like humans, raccoons are omnivores. This means that they can eat both plant and animal materials. Their diet usually consists of crayfish, fruits, seeds, insects, eggs, berries, leftover human food, and other garbage scraps. Raccoons have learned to adapt in urban and suburban environments, where there is an abundance in food scraps. Residents will usually see raccoons rummaging through their uncovered waste bins during the night.
We are often asked if there are any commercial products out there that deter raccoons. We have been in multiple attics where people have tried mothballs, ammonia soaked rags and coyote urine. Guess what, they still had raccoons. So no, there are no commercial deterrents that work. Once they have gotten inside your attic the only effective means of control is trapping.
Two peak times where raccoons are looking to break into attics are springtime when the mothers are looking for safe places to raise their babies and winter when they are trying to find someplace warm. The raccoon’s mating season occurs between the months of January and June. Female raccoons start breeding one year after they are born. Their gestation or pregnancy period normally lasts 65 days. The female raccoon can give birth to 1 to 7 litters. The kits will be weaned by their mothers at about 8 to 10 weeks, but they will live with their mothers for one more year, then they’ll eventually live on their own. Male raccoons don’t help in raising the kits. Raccoons don’t truly hibernate but in cold or bad weather will sleep it off for a few days at a time. During the winter, raccoons become inactive and enter the state called “torpor” where they will curl up and sleep for days, sometimes even weeks. This technique greatly reduces the raccoon’s body temperature and saves up its energy reserves. Blood sugar drops down as a result of increased insulin production in the raccoon’s bloodstream. If the temperature drops, the raccoon may wake up and walk around to try and search for food. Torpor only happens to raccoons living in cold areas, those living in warm areas may not experience this.
During summer through autumn, raccoons will voraciously eat in order to store up some fat. This fat will help them survive through the cold winter months when the food is scarce and the weather is too harsh. They store their fat mostly in their tails. The raccoon can stay warm by wrapping its tail around its body. Raccoons can lose up to 14 to 50 percent of their body fat during the winter, depending on the scarcity of food and the winter’s severity. Body fat is essential for their survival and without it, they will probably die from the cold and lack of nutrition.
When you call us with a raccoon problem we like to do a full inspection. We will make you aware of any damage to your home caused by the raccoons. We then create a plan to remove them which usually includes the use of humane cage traps. Once the raccoons are removed we advise how to prevent them from returning.
We also repair damage caused by raccoons. Whether they chewed a hole through your roof or soffit or ruined the insulation in your attic; we can work with you or your insurance company to repair the damage caused by the raccoons.
When dealing with raccoons we offer two different types of pricing depending on the situation you are dealing with. If they are in your attic we quote a “flat rate” to solve your problem. That includes removing all animals from your attic (could be one or many; the most we have removed from an attic was 7). That flat rate also includes a temporary repair made where the raccoons were entering to prevent others from doing the same until permanent repairs can be made. The other way we charge is if you have raccoons in your yard tearing up your lawn, or in your birdfeeders, or living under your deck. In that case we charge a flat rate for 5 or 10 days of trapping. There are a lot of companies that charge per animal and in many cases want to get paid for that stray cat that got caught or that opossum that was just walking through. The most raccoons we caught in one yard in 5 days of trapping was 15. The customer was so happy.

We just did a bat inspection in Worth today. The homeowners didn’t have a problem. They were happy to hear that. We gave them some pointers on tightening up some potential problem areas on their home. They appreciated our thorough inspection.
We recently received a call to remove a ground hog that was out in the middle of the day and wouldn’t run away when approached by people. We came and found the animal and were able to walk up to it and place it in a cage using a catch pole. We are not vets but it is easy to tell when something is not right. If you come across wildlife that is not afraid of humans or an animal that is usually nocturnal that is out in the middle of the day I would caution you to be careful. Some of these animals may be sick and some of the diseases that animals may carry are transferable to humans or pets. Better to leave the animal alone or if it is causing a nuisance or endangering people or pets to call us and we can remove it safely and humanely.
We are also specialized in removing animals from the attic. Give us a call for any wildlife pest control and animal trapping jobs like raccoon removal, skunks living under your deck or moles digging up your yard. We would love to take care of that for you as well.
